Towards a more musical, expressive, and interactive world via computation. I am broadly interested in the design of intelligent systems to extend human musical sensation and expression, especially for music performance.

My representative works include human-computer interactive performances, autonomous dancing robots, smart music displays, large-scale content-based music retrieval, haptic guildance for flute tutoring, and bio-music computing using slime mold. Particularly, I build artificial music performers that are able to perform music expressively in concert with human musicians by learning musicianship from rehearsal experience.

This effort unifies expressive performance rendering and automatic accompaniment in a machine-learning framework, generating expressive and professional performances by computers.
